Our project merely finds out whether teenagers participate in art activities and appreciate arts as well as the reason behind it.

Other research questions should also be considered.

Why is it that although students are exposed to arts in the same way, some students see arts as an important part of their lives while others view it as something that is not relevant to them?
Does development of a country in other areas affect how the citizens of a country view the arts?
What are the views of teenagers towards the local art scenes?

Further studies can proceed in finding out the efforts of the government in other countries and how they affect the people’s view towards the arts to provide some answers as to how to make Singaporeans better appreciate the arts. This might help us to find out how to improve the situation.

In conclusion, although the Government has put in great effort to develop the local art scenes, it might not be the best that could be done to really meet their goal of instilling the arts into each and every Singaporeans’ lives. It all comes down to how Singaporeans perceive the local arts scene and what our vibrant culture means to them. Hence, in order to achieve our aims to become a global arts city, each and every citizen in Singapore would have to play their own part in achieving the target of being able to appreciate the arts.

laura's part:

Good morning everyone. Today we are going to tell you about our project, the appreciation of arts by teenagers.

Art is a word that resonates in the ears of teenagers. Teenagers may have frequent exposures to the arts, as arts is often included in the school's curriculum and made compulsory for all. Singapore is also one of Asia-Pacific’s most culturally vibrant city, and has been growing rapidly throughout the last decade.

However, the question is, does the transformation of our country into a platform of artistic excellence also mean that art has become an integral part of most Singaporean’s lives? Does it mean that Singaporeans, particularly the teenagers, have become more appreciative of the arts? No, the two things are not mutually inclusive.

With the construction of the esplanade, establishment of more art schools and the large-scaled Singapore biennale event etc, the word "arts" has become more frequently heard now. Most teenagers are familiar with musical plays like Dim Sum Dollies and Boeing Boeing, and not to forget other aspects of the arts like buskers, literary arts, concerts and movies. However, from our personal experiences, the arts are still not prioritized in their lives. There are many factors as to why this is so, which triggered our interests to find out how teenagers interpreted the arts and how they relate arts to their lives.

On top of that, we would like to change teenagers' perception towards the local arts scene, thus fostering an increased interest in teenagers to better appreciate and show enthusiasm towards the arts aspect of life.
